“Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. Girls and young women have a space where they can be themselves, have fun, build friendships, gain valuable life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and their communities. We build girls’ confidence and raise their aspirations. We give them a chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for good” (Girlguiding UK Website 2014)
Knockbreda Guides is open to all girls aged 10-14; we meet every Monday evening from 7.30-9.00pm in the Minor Hall. The girls have a very active role in their programme and are mostly responsible for what activities they do, we want to encourage the girls to take part and to be involved in the decision making process. We have a wide and varied programme ranging from teambuilding, crafts, badge work, baking, Guiding Challenges, learning camping skills, outdoor cooking, community awareness and games.
We are currently looking forward to and planning our residential event in January at the Brownie House at our Girlguiding Ulster HQ in Lorne where we will be staying for 2 nights. We are also hoping to attend the Belfast County Camp in June at Lorne with other Guiding members from both Guides and Senior Section from across the country.
If you would be interested in joining us please contact Miss Amy Green 02890793775.
Brownies are girls aged seven to ten who become a member of a Six and follow a programme called the Brownie Adventure. Brownies opens up a world of exciting challenges and the opportunity to try new things and to make brilliant friends. We do cool stuff.
Brownies are on a Tuesday night, between 6.30 – 8.00pm in the Church halls. We play games, make crafts, enjoy talking and finding out about things. We work in a team, in pairs and on our own.
Here are some of the things we have done recently - gone out to the cinema, done lots of indoor and outdoor activities, had quizzes, cooked, had sleepovers, done badge work, and visited the Lord Mayors parlour.
We are girl lead organisation!
