Perhaps you’re not sure how to go about ‘coming to church’ – don’t worry, it’s OK just to visit and see what happens. Here are some hints…
WHAT’S THE BEST SERVICE TO COME TO?
If you’re coming with children it would be good to try the 10.00am morning service (10.30am in July and August). It lasts for approx 60 minutes and during it we have Bible teaching activities for all ages. In the evening, our Evening Praise service in the hall is often smaller, more contemporary and informal.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Whatever you’re comfortable in. People wear anything from jeans and T-shirts to jacket and tie.
CAN I PARK?
You can park in the car park directly outside the church.
WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE?
We suggest you aim to arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the start of the service so you have time to park and find your way around.
WHAT WOULD IT BE LIKE IF I CAME ON MY OWN?
We would hope that you would immediately be made to feel welcome at Knockbreda. There are always people at the entrance to welcome newcomers, and would be more than happy to talk to you, answer your questions and perhaps introduce you to a friendly face. One suggestion would be to stay for tea/coffee afterwards; this would give you the best opportunity to meet some of the church family.
OH – HOW DO I MAKE SURE I’M NOT IN SOMEONE’S SEAT?
There’s no such thing! If a seat is empty you can sit there. We’re always happy to see visitors.
HOW DO I GET INTO THE CHURCH?
The main entrance is at the Church Road side of the building. There is wheelchair access through this entrance. Just follow the path from the car park on Purdy’s Lane.
WHAT BOOKS DO I NEED, AND WHERE DO I GET THEM?
All the words you need for the service should be on the screen at the front of the church. You will also be provided with a Notice Sheet on the way in. If you need a large print hymn sheet it can be provided. There are Bibles in the pews so you can follow the readings.
WHEN DO THE CHILDREN GO TO THE SUNDAY SCHOOL?
The service leader will announce that it’s time for the children to go to their groups about twenty minutes after the service has started. Your children can either go on their own with all the others or you’re welcome to take them to the groups, and stay for a minute while they settle in. We’ve got a crèche available throughout the morning in one of the smaller rooms in the hall.
HOW DO I KNOW WHEN TO STAND OR SIT?
The person leading the service will make that clear. We usually stand for songs and hymns (it’s easier to sing that way), and for a couple of other bits. Just look around and see what other people are doing if you’re not sure.
DO YOU HAVE TOILETS?
Yes – just ask the welcomers in the church porch.
